Installation Requirements

Aurum is fully self-hosted software. It installs on your Windows Server environment and connects to your existing SQL Server infrastructure. No data leaves your network.

Your implementation consists of two scheduled sessions. Element 79 staff will connect remotely — no on-site presence is required unless you prefer it for the training session. An IT contact must be available for the duration of the installation session to assist with any environment-specific issues that arise.

Session 1

Installation

Approx. half day · Remote

Element 79 connects to your server, downloads and installs Aurum, configures IIS, sets up the system service, connects to your database server(s), and validates the system end-to-end.

Session 2

Training

Approx. full day · Remote or on-site

Hands-on training for your team covering system administration, query configuration (Intercepts), workflow setup (Resolve), pipeline building (Unify), and day-to-day operations.

Internet Access

During installation

Outbound internet access required — Element 79 will download Aurum installation files directly to the server during the engagement

After installation

May be restricted or removed once installation is complete

Database Requirements

SQL Server

Minimum version

SQL Server 2016 · 2017 or later recommended Rec.

Aurum application DB

A dedicated SQL Server database is required on the Aurum host for Aurum’s own configuration, results, and audit data

Connected data sources

Each SQL Server instance Aurum will query must be network-accessible from the Aurum server

Database Permissions — Aurum Application Database

db_owner on the Aurum application database — required during installation; can be reduced after install if needed
SQL Authentication or Windows Authentication are both supported

Database Permissions — Connected Data Sources

Minimum: db_datareader on each database Aurum will query
Additional permissions (write / stored procedure execute) may be required if Aurum pipelines write back data or trigger stored procedures via Unify
Windows Authentication or SQL Authentication are both supported

Network & Connectivity

Aurum Web Application

HTTPS

Port 443 Required End users must be able to reach the Aurum server on this port

SSL Certificate

Required — issued by internal CA, public CA, or wildcard. Must be available on the server at installation. Element 79 will assist with binding; does not procure certificates.

SQL Server Connectivity

SQL Server port

TCP 1433 (default) — Firewall must allow outbound from Aurum server to each connected SQL Server instance

Optional — Messaging Infrastructure (Unify)

Only required if your Unify pipelines use message bus triggers.

MSMQ — Windows component; must be enabled on the Aurum server
IBM MQ — IBM MQ client must be installed on the Aurum server
Azure Service Bus — outbound HTTPS from the Aurum server to your Azure Service Bus namespace

Access Requirements for Installation

The following access is required during the installation session. Elevated access may be reduced to a lower-privilege account after successful installation.

Remote Access — Aurum Server

SQL Server — Application Database

A login with sysadmin or dbcreator + securityadmin rights on the SQL Server instance hosting Aurum’s application database
Required to create the application database, schema, and application login during installation

SQL Server — Connected Data Sources

Read-level access to each SQL Server instance Aurum will connect to (for connection testing during setup)
Element 79 does not require sysadmin rights on your data servers

File System & IIS

Write access to the intended installation directory (e.g. C:\inetpub\wwwroot\aurum or equivalent)
Administrative access to IIS on the Aurum server (typically covered by local admin)

Pre-Installation Checklist

Confirm all items below are complete before the installation session begins.

Infrastructure

Windows Server 2016 or later is provisioned and accessible

IIS is installed and enabled with required features (ASP.NET, Windows Auth, URL Rewrite)

Required .NET runtime is installed

SSL certificate is available for the Aurum server hostname

Database

SQL Server instance for Aurum application data is identified

SQL Server instance(s) to be connected as data sources are identified

Required SQL logins/accounts are created and credentials shared with Element 79 via secure channel

Network

Firewall allows: Aurum server → connected SQL Server(s) on port 1433 (or custom)

Firewall allows: end-user access to Aurum web interface on port 443

Messaging infrastructure configured (if applicable)

Remote Access

Remote access method confirmed and tested with Element 79

Administrator credentials shared with Element 79 via secure channel

IT contact confirmed as available and reachable for the full duration of the installation session (required)

Notes & Recommendations

Staging environment: Where possible, validate the installation in a staging or QA environment before deploying to production.
Backups: Ensure current backups exist for any SQL Server instances Aurum will connect to before installation begins.
Antivirus / EDR: Endpoint protection software may interfere with IIS or SQL connectivity. Whitelist Aurum’s installation directory and process, or have your security team available during the session.
Service account (recommended): Create a dedicated service account with minimum required permissions for ongoing Aurum SQL connectivity rather than using personal admin credentials.
